Glowmonkey released a free football game in 2018 under the 4th and Goal series and let players open it from any browser without downloads. The title shows action from a top-down angle and offers simple arcade graphics. Control moves use only a keyboard and every tap or arrow press sends players dashing across the field.
Players control offense and defense with clear options each down. A runner breaks through gaps or hands off for a burst of speed. A quarterback darts across the field, flips a short pass and hurls a longer one downfield. On defense users assign man coverage, set up zones or send a blitz. Arrow keys move players and a single button triggers each chosen play.
An included single-player mode places users against computer opponents. Team colors change before every match to help spot squads. Downs, scores and the game clock appear on screen during each quarter. Options include onside kicks, extra points and the choice between kickoff or receiving. The game follows standard rules for scoring, turnovers and down progress and does not include any story elements.
